Holistic Dentistry

Holistic Dentistry

Holistic dentistry is the philosophy of a natural connection between the mouth and body. We restore teeth using non-toxic, mercury-free, and bio-compatible materials for fillings, crowns, bridges, partials, full dentures, inlays, and onlays. We can also provide pre-treatment precautions, such as biocompatibility testing, heavy metal profiling, and electro-dermal screening, to determine the dental materials that will not interfere with your body's immune system.

Periodontal Disease and Overall Health

Mounting research supports the relationship between gum disease and overall health. We consider gum disease a problem that can affect the whole body. It has been linked to increased risk for stroke, heart attack, pre-term births, diabetes complications, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and other whole-health problems. Periodontal disease is also an even stronger predictor of heart disease than traditional risk factors, such as low "good" cholesterol, high triglycerides, or high fibrinogen (a clotting factor). We address gum disease as a serious, whole-health concern.

Amalgam Removal

We subscribe to the Huggins Institute's philosophy for removing dental amalgam, which contains mercury. For the procedure, a rubber dam is used for protection, and the evacuation is performed under copious water with an intense vacuum. We employ an ionic filtering system from the American Environmental System Company, and a second system from the Huggins Institute. Patients are given oxygen during the procedure to prevent inhaling mercury vapor. These and other preventive measures protect the patient and staff during mercury amalgam removal.

Upon request, our doctors will review your Bio Compatibilty tests  to determine which dental materials are compatible with your immune system. Many dental materials are available, and some patients react negatively to particular materials. Your provided blood test results will provide us with a guideline for dental materials that are compatible with your body.
